Sarah Applebaum INSTALLATIONS

http://honestlywtf.com/art/sarah-applebaum/

San Francisco artist Sarah Applebaum's installations and sculptures made out of afghans, vintage blankets, felt, and yarn. They are 99% of the time going to be extremely colorful and psychedelic. She knits and crochets. She gathers inspiration from shelves and racks full of junk and turns them into exciting creations. They are not only full of color but she creates psychological pieces. She is also a self taught artist.

This artist inspires me a lot. She uses so many colors yet all the pieces have balance. She really utilizes her spaces well, your eyes never get tired of looking at her pieces, and it makes me happy when I'm looking at them. I look up to her work because she taught herself, and also the amount of time that goes into her works. She knits and crochets most of her things, meaning that she has to create something out of pretty much nothing- string, yard. I really like the patterns she uses and the variety in which they are placed and used. Giving contrast and perception in her works comes to play when she places a small object on one of her towers or how she uses the pieces that come off the ceiling to show just how tall and big some of her works are.
